A Young Persons Guide To Misty’s Big Adventure

Misty’s Big Adventure

Vinyl Album Review

The first thing to say about this compilation album is that it is a pure testament to persistence and one mans love for a bands music. Psychotron Records’ Pete Bonner has been a huge fan of the eclectic outfit otherwise known as Misty’s Big Adventure for many years. Watching them fill rooms with their out of the box musical craft and drop several albums to reach a undoubted Cult status on the Birmingham scene it eventually became his dream to press and release a collection of the bands best work. After many back and forth between himself and leader of the pack Grandmaster Gareth he was green lit to get it pressed….and I couldn’t be more happier.

To start with the double LP comes in a sturdy and well designed Gatefold packaging that from the moment you look at it, you know that Misty’s Big Adventure are a band far removed from the mainstream. With a vibrant colouring pattern and quirky lettering the physical appearance of this album already gets you intrigued to find out what it sounds like. So of course, your gonna want to open it up. Inside the collection of hand picked tracks by Grandmaster Gareth have been pressed on to not one, but two coloured vinyls. Again this really adds to the bands nature and character and what you’d expect from the artwork and packaging so far. As a little extra you also get a fold out poster, again well designed and already on the wall, and a CD album.

Now to the meat of it all, the music. In short. It’s amazing. Everything about this bands sound and attitude is captured on every single track. Plus, by having it be a two vinyl collection Pete has allowed people to fully experience the sweeping and indescribable nature of the bands sound and songwriting. Featuring everything from comments on the modern music industry via the catchy track ‘Fashion Parade’ to the song ‘The Kids Are Radioactive’, which I’m not going to lie will take you by surprise if you’ve never heard it before, Misty’s Big Adventure are a band truly worth the status of Cult Legends. Though it is a collection, each song is like its own little pocket universe that you can slip into and explore as your listening. Also having these tracks play out o vinyl really allow them to breath and let you hear every tiny detail that makes each song what it is.

Overall this compilation would make a great addition to anyone who is a fan of music that sees the box and jumps on it. Still going strong Misty’s Big Adventure will be introduced to a whole new generation of fans looking for something other than Taylor Swift curtsy of one mans love and pure intentions for their music. This Vinyl release is defiantly one for your collection.
